It’s a good idea to find out as much as you can about college before you apply.

Some people may try tasters in college in year 11.

You can also find out about colleges by

• Going to visit the college
     
• Looking at college course books
    
• Asking your teachers or
     
• Asking your Connexions Personal Adviser.

Colleges have lots of different courses some of which will need lots of reading and writing and some which are more practical.

These might be:

• Reading and writing courses
    
• Learning how to look after yourself
   
• Learning how to cook
    
• Learning how to do a job.

If you want to go to college you will usually have to apply before Christmas.

You may be able to get some money for going to college.
