From October 2006 it became unlawful for an employer to impose a lower (or higher) age limit when recruiting, unless this age restriction can be objectively justified.

The legislation applies to vacancies that Connexions receive from employers, training providers and recruitment agencies.

The following are examples of job requirements which DO justify an age restriction:

  • Some shift working (18 or over)
  • Driving licence required (over 17)
  • Working with specific machinery
  • Personal care (18 or over)
  • Employers insurance
  • Selling alcohol (18 or over)

We will be pleased to discuss your specific requirements with you when you place a vacancy with us.

If you would like any more help or information about employment legislation please contact ACAS (08457 47 47 47).
