Learning Agreement

What is it?

The Learning agreement is a government initiative offering financial incentives to young people aged 16/17 in jobs without training, to access accredited training .
It is designed to encourage young people to experience learning that will benefit both themselves and their employer.

Greater Manchester is one of eight areas in the country that is part of the Learning Agreement initiative running until March 2009.

Who is it for?mechanic

Young people 16/17 years old who are employed and not currently engaged in nationally accredited training.

What do I get out of it?

Apart from the valuable learning experience you will receive up to £250 for taking part and achieving your Learning Agreement:

  • £50 at the start
  • £50 as an interim progress payment and
  • up to £150 on successful completion.

What training can I do?

Young people can access a wide range of flexible training courses including Apprenticeships, that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. How you are trained, and the time it will take will be agreed between you, your employer, your Connexions Adviser and either a learning provider.

What will my employer have to do?

Employers will need to give you the time and support to do the training – in the workplace, or in a learning centre.
